The Web is fundamentally designed to work for all people, regardless of hardware, software, language, location, or ability. Before the internet, imagine the hoops a visually impaired person might have to jump through just to read a newspaper. The impact of disability is radically changed on the Web because the Web removes barriers to communication and interaction that many people face in the physical world. When web sites, applications, technologies, or tools are badly designed, they can create barriers that exclude people from using the Web. At Insight Designs, we make accessibility a priority in our development practices. Think of it this way: 19.3% percent of people in the United States have some type of disability. Meanwhile, less than 4% of internet users choose Internet Explorer as their browser. Yet most website developers spend their time accommodating the latter and ignoring the former. Not Insight Designs.
